    Tsvangirai and Gay rights in Zimbabwe

    As a young man growing up on the streets of Bulawayo I would have never thought I would be writing a piece in support of Gay rights in Zimbabwe as I find myself doing today. Such is the alarm with which I greet the news that Morgan Tsvangirai, leader of the Movement for democratic change, has chosen to stand shoulder to shoulder with Robert Mugabe on this I have found myself compelled to write about it. I find it difficult to reconcile the idea that someone who has stood up so boldly for human rights and dignity in would propagate the denial of the rights of a minority albeit based on sexual orientation. It can only be assumed that this is due to some hard-coding within his own psyche that we probably all share or a lack of the political will to take a position that will probably not prove popular.
