scholarship fund

After a 3 year break we have decided to resume work on our scholarship fund. As most of you will be aware the Zimbabwean education system has been through a rough patch in recent times with a number of schools being closed and some major regression in the system.

Thankfully due to the efforts of the ministry of education and the dedication of the Zimbabwean teaching fraternity there have been some positive signs and the education system seems to be back on the road to recovery. We believe that now would be a good time for us to get back to work helping Children through this difficult period.

We are however changing our tactics slightly. In the past we ran our scholarship fund specifically to help get kids into the system where their families have been unable to fund this. We focused our attention on victims of violence selecting children whose parents had lost their capacity to generate an income for the family. The programme proved successful largely through the efforts of Women of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA) who managed it expertly on the ground.

We recognise that circumstances have now changed and that there are a number of organisations with greater capacity than ours in this field. We are therefore taking a more focused approach striving towards encouraging excellence by offering a small number of scholarships for “A” level study at some of the best institutions in Zimbabwe. We recognise that we will help fewer kids this way but strongly believe that this approach is the best fit for our capacity and is the right platform for growth in this area. As we see it the limit in numbers is temporary as we build the capacity to run this project well.

As always we could use your help. If you are interested in volunteering to help with this project please contact us admin@wezimbabwe.org

We will be posting details on developments in this area soon.
